History

The Armed Forces Rugby League Cymru team was set up by Welsh veterans who play Rugby League in Wales. The dominance of the sport and governance across the border meant it was difficult to set up or join other teams. A team committee was formed and sought and was granted permission to use the AFRL name and association.

The first game was played on the 26th of November 2022 at Bethesda Rugby Club, where £3000 was raised for local AF charities. The team was made up of Veterans who are Welsh or have played for a Welsh club, and invited members.

The spirit of Masters Rugby means irrespective of how many tries are scored the games always finish 0-0. So it is perhaps strange that this game is played for a trophy. However, it is a trophy that can only be won by both completing teams who come together. A reflection of a peace earned at great cost that should never be wasted or taken for granted.

Crest

The AFRL tradition crest incorporates its tri-service commitment.  While he playing crest of the AFRL alongside its sister team's crest, AFARL are more modern and are word on all playing and team wear.

Team Kits

The first AFRL Cymru Masters played in a white jersey with Welsh sleeves of Red and Green. Their second kit was all black. The first game was divided between North and South Wales.
